It's June and summer is just around the corner. Now is a good time to start thinking about how to keep the kids busy and entertained while they are out of school for summer vacation.

Here are 33 fun things to do this summer including art, cooking, attractions and travel destinations, indoor and outdoor fun.

  • Crafting is always a fun activity, and you get to keep their wonderful creations! Target has some great craft books with loads of crafts that will keep the kids busy for hours.
  • Paint Canvas Sneakers - I saw a demonstration of this on TV, and it is so cool! Take plain white canvas sneakers like these from Target, and paint them with fabric paints. As you paint each small section, take a dropper and apply drops of rubbing alcohol to the wet paint. This causes the paints to bleed into each other creating a sort of tie-die effect. Your kids will have fun painting, and wearing the art afterwards!
  • Sidewalk Art -Let the kids decorate the sidewalks with their art. Take a picture and let the kids take the hose and wash it away or wait for the rain to erase it.

  • Bake cookies - Help the kids mix up a tasty batch of homemade cookies.
  • Summer is the best time to whip up some homemade ice cream. If you don't own an ice cream maker, Sur La Table has several types of ice cream makers in different price ranges.
  • Or make another cool treat, popsicles! Just pour fruit juice into popsicle molds even paper cups and wooden sticks will work), then pop them in the freezer to enjoy later.
  • Make s'mores with your backyard fire pit! Obviously this must be an adult supervised activity.

  • Get everyone together for a game night. Gather around and play your favorite board games like they did "back in the day".

  • Set up a slip and slide. Did you know you can make your own? Get a tarp and spray shaving cream all over it. Really! The family will have a blast!
  • Sign up for a sports team. Organized sports is good for teaching sportsmanship and competition, and it's another good way for the kids to get some exercise.
  • Run through the sprinkler. I know, it's "old school", but it is easy and fun.
  • Have a squirt gun fight. Another "old school" summer activity that is sure to bring smiles.
  • Fill and throw water balloons. My last old time fun activity to suggest; fill a bunch of balloons with water and watch the excitement happen.
